Bookkeeper Business Launch (Formerly Bookkeeper Business Academy), found online at LearnToBeABookkeeper.com, is a new online training program designed to teach people how to run a virtual bookkeeping business, even if you have no experience.

The Bookkeeper Business Academy was created by Ben Robinson, a former CPA firm owner and published author who designed this course specifically for people who are ready to start their own online business even though they don’t have a formal background in bookkeeping or accounting.

The website says that more than a thousand people have used this course to become bookkeepers and start their own business, and that the average bookkeeper makes $40,000 year using skills that are always in demand.

What You’ll Learn

This course is broken into three different Training Classes. The first class is dedicated to understanding what a bookkeeping business is all about, the seven key characteristics of a great bookkeeper, and understanding your business’s income potential.

The second class is about the exact technology and tools you need for your business, what it will cost you to start your bookkeeping business, and understanding how the right mindset will contribute to your success.

The third class is all about your future clients. This class is organized in order to teach people how to market their services, how to get the best results for their clients, and other important client based strategies for furthering your success.

What to Consider

For brand new customers, Bookkeeper Business Academy offers a free training class that is intended to teach people what they should know before they start their own business. This free class is designed to provide students with easy to understand information, using no complicated terminology or fancy theories.

This free course is obviously a good opportunity for beginners to see whether or not the full course is right for them, however, this company does not publish any information about any costs associated with their full program. This is problematic because some customers may find their program cost prohibitive and therefore shouldn’t need to waste their time with the free class.

The website does say that their course includes their Xero Certification, which is normally priced at $249 but is included in the cost of the course itself, so the class will certainly be priced higher than that.

They do say that all customers have thirty days from the date of the original purchase to return their products and request a refund, but that no refunds will be processed after thirty days.

Average Rating for " Bookkeeper Business Launch " is 3.8 out of 5 based on 10 reviews.
  • I'm pleased to join bookkeeper business. I'm interested in giving talks on accounting principles that flourish businesses.
  • Hi Beth is this course self pace online? How long did it take you to complete.

    I really want to start.
  • Hello Beth,

Have you get any clients yet? because I'm thinking to join this course, but $1999 is a lot of money. Please, advise.
  • I am leaving school teaching! Because i am 100% disabled as a result of exposure to Agent Orange, I am eligible for occupational retraining. Do you know if your company is VA certified?
  • With 45 years as a bookkeeper, payroll specialist and tax preparer, I still struggled to obtain clients when I decided to work for myself. I know debits and credits, but marketing is new to me. Many programs teach marketing and some specifically for bookkeeping, but the concern over not getting my money's worth kept me from committing to buy until I discovered Bookkeeper Business Launch. Ben Robinson is honestly what he claims to be, an experienced CPA who teaches both the technical and marketing skills to be successful as a self-employed bookkeeper.

I spent over a year researching Ben and his company. Besides being a certified bookkeeper and payroll specialist, I am also a professional genealogist with over 50 years of research experience. I know how to dig up information. I researched the people who gave testimonials about his program. Did they really have bookkeeping businesses and for how long? Did any of them or Ben have complaints reported to the BBB? I found 393 5 star reviews and only 1 complaint over three years for BBL.

The course is broken into sections with multiple options to download for use; video, or transcript or both. I received a top rated work book used in traditional school curriculum and checklists to help me stay organized while I study at my own pace. With my work experience, the how to be a bookkeeper portions were a fun refresher. The modules that teach marketing and software were the most important to me. I started as a bookkeeper before Quicken, Quickbooks, etc. The number of programs available overwhelmed me. BBL is supportive beyond words. Got a question, ask. Their support crew responds 9 AM - 5 PM EST, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

There is an amazingly supportive Facebook group who freely share ideas and advice. My only regret is that I took so long to take the course. The current cost is $1999 or a payment plan of $199 per month for 12 months. I opted for the payment plan.

This is not a get rich quick scheme. It requires work to learn the information, to market yourself, and once you get clients to keep them. It is not free nor easy, but it is worth the cost and effort.
    • after a year how you feel of the course? I am looking to do it and researching like you
    • I feel like this is a staged review since you comment on their hours of operations and then your response as if you are defending the company. An average post wouldn't put out such intimate information and hit on key points of a company as this post does so I am sorry but I don't believe this review came from an independent "student".
  • Hard work ..... check

    Investment required ..... check

    Moderately Positive Reviews ..... check

Qualify for Regulated and/or Industry Credential ..... ?????

If this program sets you up to compete with folks who are doing the same type of business as CPA’s or degreed Accounting professionals, what is the real measure to which one can compare how you will stack up with other pros?

I won’t doubt it’s comprehensiveness or validity. However, I believe this program will be ‘Hard Work Of Another Order’ beyond the last day of training.
    • To clarify, BBL teaches how to be a bookkeeper, not an accountant or CPA. Although many people who are licensed CPAs, Accountants, and Enrolled Agents take this course. Take the course and chat with them on the group Facebook page.

Bookkeepers work with a business owner and depending on their additional training they can offer payroll management and tax filing. CPAs refer their clients to bookkeepers. to handle balancing monthly accounts and producing financial statements that help the CPA service their mutual client.

As for credentials, this program offers training that prepares one to get certified in QuickBooks with over 5 million customers, the most popular bookkeeping software world wide. If the students were not successful, BBL would not last. Currently with over 5,500 members and growing, it will be around a long time.
  • Anything that you do in life will require hard work and dedication, if you want to be successful at it. I am going to try this course because my husband and I are launching our own construction business and I want to be able to handle all of my own bookkeeping and possibly help others once we are up and running. You bet that I am going to work hard at it. Starting a business requires cold-calling on people and sales savvy. You cannot just sit on your couch watching tv and expect people to knock on your door for help. You must network yourself and shake hands and kiss babies, as the politicians say. Hard work. Good rewards. This is not for those who feel entitled to earn a good living just because they paid for a course. This requires patience and tenacity.
    • Shirley

I am also interested to know how this program helped you. Do you still use it? I have my associates accounting degree. I am currently a stay at home mom and would love this opportunity but am terrified to spend the money on it. Please email me at [email protected]
    • Shirley,

I'm contacting you in reference to how the new construction business for you and your husband has been, also how the training with this program helped or not helped. You may contact me at [email protected]. TIA.
  • @Bryan you are sooo sad. Your mother must be sooo very disappointed in you. Find Jesus, ask Him for forgiveness and to come into your heart because at the rate you're going you'll end up in HELL very soon. What a waste.. 😏
  • hey dear sir,

I would like to have the requirements to have training in bookkeeping. Yours, Hillary
  • Bryan,

Do you work for the company?
    • Mr.Young,

You asked if Bryan works for the company, I do not know Bryan, but I do not work for BBL. I paid my money, took the class, and feel I not only got my money's worth, but continue to do so.
