Davison Inventions (www.InventionConcept.com) is a company that claims to take people’s ideas of new inventions, and turn them into reality. Davison says that it will take your idea through all the steps necessary to get your invention onto the market, from research and development to licensing to getting it onto the shelves.
Davison’s website claims that you have the ability to submit your idea to them knowing that you have full confidentiality and protection. Once your idea is submitted, you will receive a one on one consultation about the viability of your idea, and whether or not you should begin the process to take your idea further.
Davison claims to have a variety of agreements available for potential clients. Some services they offer will require you to pay one time, up front fees, while others will require you to commit to an agreement where Davison receives a percentage of royalties from your invention.
From Dream to Reality
“Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door.” From the time that man created fire, there has been an innate desire to come up with better ways of doing things. If you take a minute to look around you, at the things we take for granted every day, you’ll see the evidence of people’s invention dreams that came to life.
But, unlike the picture painted in Hollywood films, most of these inventions weren’t created in someone’s basement and then magically appeared on the market. Inventions must go through an intense process of research and development – is it truly an original invention? Is there someone else out there with a comparable idea or existing product? Is this invention already in the works?
At times an idea must be patented, which can be an expensive and complicated process. After that, an invention must often be licensed to another company or corporation to produce and distribute, because individuals usually lack the money necessary to fund the actual supply of product needed for the market.
Davison Inventions claims to help you through this long, arduous process, and to get your invention on the shelves of major retailers like Target, WalMart, Home Depot, and others.
Davison Inventions Success Stories?
Well, the truth is that when you research Davison Inventions, you are going to hear much more about heartbreak and failure than you will about success stories. In fact, Davison was ordered to pay $26 million in restitution to former clients after they were sued by the Federal Trade Commission and lost.
The lawsuit determined that clients of Davison would often pay upwards of $10,000 toward costs and services, and that less than 1% of their clients ever saw a return higher than what they invested with Davison.
In addition, they were told to stop promoting themselves as being linked to major retailers. However, if you look at their current website it seems fairly obvious that they are walking a fine line in adhering to this court order.
Their landing page is covered in logos from major retailers, with information offering that inventions processed through Davison are sold at all of these stores. While there is no official statement saying they have a relationship with these companies, the implication is still there.
Finally, the lawsuit ordered that Davison refrain from acting as though their services are selective, since they were found to take anyone’s idea through the research and development process as long as they paid the fees. This is a bad sign for those looking to process an invention, because it means that you can’t trust Davison’s evaluation of your invention’s potential. If they are simply willing to take everyone’s money who comes to them, it’s easy to see how 99+% of their customers never saw a profit from their dealings with Davison.
After submitting submitting my idea, I read all of the negative reports, but was already scheduled a phone appointment, so I took the call. I listened, for almost 15 minutes to Matt Dixon practically rave about my idea. Then, before going any further, I told him that I did not have money to invest, & suggested a contract that allowed for them to receive the bulk of any profits made. He proceeded to tell me that that is NOT how their business is run, then quickly hung up. It's amazing how my idea was “great", & good enough for ME to put money towards, but once it was established that THAT wasn't happening, he was done. Hmmm... It's funny how a “great" idea can turn to crap as soon as they hear they aren't getting money!
She had an idea, and contacted Davison.
She showed the materials they sent to her to my parents and I.
I watched the material, and then googled the name.
When I found out that less than 1% of all of their customers have made more than they paid to Davison, I told her it was a scam and to throw out the materials, and drop the matter.
Well, she called the company to cancel, and they fast talked her into coughing up over $4K. She was totally taken advantage of by these leaches....I am going to contact the IL. Attorney General, and all the local news networks. I will also contact the PA Attorney General and all of the local Pittsburgh news channels to try and rattle their cage a bit.
I am going to ask for a full refund for her....I am sure I will get nowhere...
STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS!
I approached these guys and three other groups regarding a product idea I had. In the end I went with Davison. I was initially asked for $795 for 'research' to make sure there wasn't a patent out currently on something the same or too close, etc. I was offered a $100 discount so I took the offer and submitted all my idea documents that I had prepared. I was told by my rep that it would take 3 weeks or so. In the mean time I was sent several videos to watch about others that had succeeded with their products and such. I admit I didn't watch all of them because as I expressed up front.. it was not so much about my product succeeding or failing.. it was about if I could help a few people and save a few lives with my product. I'm 100% sure it will work and don't really need all the hype.
After a few weeks my rep told me he'd looked over everything and it looked 'decent' and would be sending it out. I waited and didn't receive anything. In the meantime I started getting emails and VMs from another individual in the company about how I was going to miss out on a 5% discount if I didn't sign up for something within the next 5 days. I wasn't sure what that was all about because I had not received anything yet. My rep called and asked about what I thought of the 'packet' and I told him I'd not received anything yet. He sounded confused and said he'd check into it. In the end apparently it got lost in the shipping department or something and he was having it sent right away. So I finally get my 'packet' and all it contained was a contract to sign, some DVDs about the process and such and that was it. So I asked about that and was told oh ya know the VP or somebody (honestly I don't recall the title) approved of me to see more information and that was sent to me in an email.
So Ok.. why would I start getting pushed to pay for something else when I had not even received the first thing I paid for. Why did I receive just another contract and some DVDs and not the 'research' information? Why did I have to ask for that?
Regardless.. So I was getting pushed for money and a signature, money and a signature, money and a signature. I told them I wanted to look through the material and think about it. I did some research on the company they wanted to target, which by the way was a far cry from whom I had provided to them as to who I thought would really go for this product, and I wasn't impressed. A few other things were not sitting well with me either. I missed a few calls from the rep due to some meetings. I finally had to send an email and expressed my concerns. So the rep set up a call with 'his boss', him and myself where she provided more information about the target company. I had to leave for a business trip and told the rep I was leaving town and wouldn't be available until the following week. While I was away I was researching this target company in my spare time. They turned out to be better than I initially thought they were so I decided it would be ok to move forward.
I get back from my trip to find an email from the rep about how he guesses I was terminating our relationship because I had not answered the phone for a few days. I didn't get in until 3AM.. I was exhausted but I got up and emailed as early as I could to let remind him I'd be gone and let him know my decision. He called later that day and let him know I was good with the research I had done and would be moving forward but I didn't have time that day to take care of it. It wasn't until 3/19/2014 when I had a few minutes to breath and move forward. My CC was charged an hour or so after we last spoke. I received a reminder on 3/21/2014 that they needed my signed contracts to get started and I was put on some 'fast track'. I signed the one but the other was no longer pertinent as it pertained to discounts I would have received if I had signed and sent money earlier. I got distracted and busy with something else and didn't get the main contract in until 3/23/2014. I was contacted the next day and they needed that one un-applicable contract as well before they could get started. Ok whatever.. I signed and sent that over to them on 3/24/2014. Silence... not a peep one out of them after that. No.. 'hey these are the next steps'...'hey lets set up some calls'.. nothing. So on Friday I called to get a status update. I got an automated thing saying 'all circuits are busy'. I was busy and it was late so I waited until Monday (yesterday) to call again. Got the same message thing so I sent an email. The rep called first thing this morning but I was in a meeting so I called him back as soon as I was out of my first meeting. Got the same automated message.
I should not have to be asking these guys for an update. I have 3 other projects started at the same time and I'm getting updated, have been in meetings with them, etc. since commitment.
I sent in my cancellation. I was on my way into some more meetings and started getting calls from the rep. I quick sent an email letting him know that he needed to go ahead and process my cancellation and that I would be free at 2PM his time to discuss. Didn't get a phone call until about an hour and a half after that where I was told my stuff was in production and it was coming right along quickly. I told him that was unfortunate because the decision was already made to pull the plug on the project and that there should have been better communication. He said there would be no refund so I need to stick with it for a few months because it takes time and he calls all his clients every two weeks. I pointed out I was within my 7 day cancellation per the contract and was met with a big ole' sorry it doesn't matter because the product is already in production. He wished me well. I did the same for him.
Really what could be being produced? I’ve not received any phone calls from anyone. I’ve not had any ‘brainstorming meetings’ that I was told would happen. Nothing. At this point all I’ve provided is a bullet point document of how I envision it to work. No specs of any kind…nothing. Just high level bullets. So again what is in production?
Now the CC company, the BBB, an attorney and the FTC is involved all because the cancellation clause in the contract was blown off by Davison. Time consuming for several people and a big mar for them. Whatever.
I do not blame the rep. I know he was just following his scripts and saying what he has been trained to say and send what he was trained to send. He just needs to really re-evaluate his job. I do business on a daily basis much bigger than Davison and have never run into a company that does business quite this way nor have any of the bigger companies ever tried to step around a contract. If they do that to the people they sell to I can't image what it's like to work there and I feel sorry for the rep.
Bottom line.. these guys really are lacking in basic communication skills, and ethic, that would have staved off a poor ending to what started out as a very exciting opportunity.
My experience is just like T.K.'s. All the bologna I was getting from Frances Knapp (if that really is his name), Director of Research and Development. I trusted him, and prior to paying my balance in June, he called me all the time! He knew a lot about me; my bouts w/cancer, my ups, downs, depression, dark times, good times, etc.
What now? Where do I go from here? After no response to my emails, I researched....and was I shocked. My heart started pounding rapidly, I felt sick t my stomach, I felt like crying, but God has this.
I pray someone will please contact me at [email protected] with advice on what is being, or can be done.
