FileForGrants.com is the online home for File For Grants, a website which claims to be dedicated to helping regular Americans apply for government grant money, regardless of their credit score or general financial status.
According to FileForGrants.com, all American citizens and residents are eligible to apply for and receive Federal Government, State Government, and Private Foundation grant money, and they can show you how to apply for this money at no cost to you personally.
In order to receive your copy of their Grant Approval Guide, all you need to do is give FileForGrants.com your first name, email address, and take a few minutes to go through their brief questionnaire.
The Promises
FileForGrants.com describes their website as “the fastest and most convenient way to seek and apply for these grants” and generally speaks about the government’s grant program as though it is a federally funded loan program – you can apply for grant money “without credit checks, collateral, security deposits or co-signers.”
In reality, a grant is money given by the Federal or State government in order to fund specific projects, which must be clearly detailed and outlined before they are approved, and once they are approved they must then be managed and closely monitored by the agency which has given you the funds.
Grant money is in no way intended to help people pay off their personal financial obligations and it never has been. Websites that act as though the government is simply handing out money to people to do with what they wish are purposely misleading them.
The Reality
Most of these grant kit websites are actually web pages that are created with the purpose of capturing your personal contact information so they can sell or share it with third party marketing, advertising, and partner companies.
The questionnaire found at FileForGrants.com, for example, is actually a series of questions intended to get you to try and sign up for other services so their partner companies can attempt to sell you things, like credit reports. Their Privacy Policy states that they will use the information from your questionnaire to send you specific offers they think you might like, as well as third party offers that they believe “would be of value to any online consumer.”
The truth is that the Federal government has its own free, comprehensive, informational site that can address all your questions regarding grants, the application process, and their availability. You can find everything you need at Grants.gov, as well as additional information about these types of websites in our article, The Truth About Government Grants.
