Harris Poll Online is the online division of Harris Interactive, a global market research company which gives individuals a chance to “influence important decision makers in government, business, and non-profits.”

When you join Harris Poll Online, you’ll be enrolled in their appreciation program, which allows you to earn HIpoints when you complete surveys. HIpoints may then be exchanged for prizes and gift certificates.

Members can sign up at HarrisPollOnline.com for free, as long as you are at least 13 years old, with a verifiable mailing address and email address, and you can unsubscribe from their service at any time.

Participating with Harris Poll Online

Members will typically receive 3-4 survey invitations per month, with each survey taking anywhere between 5 and 25 minutes to complete. Each survey will reward members with a different amount of HIpoints.

Some members with certain areas of interest or special characteristics, such as certain medical conditions or backgrounds, may qualify for more surveys than other members on a month to month basis.

Not every survey you take will be rewarded with HIpoints, but Harris Poll Online promises that surveys which don’t award points will be the exception.

In addition to acquiring HIpoints, Harris Poll Online also has opportunities for members to be enrolled in their HIstakes sweepstakes. These sweepstakes give members the opportunity to win cash prizes anywhere from $250 up to $10,000.

Issues with Harris Poll Online

Harris Poll Online does have a problem with imposters and scammers using their name for illegal purposes. Ads have posted online from Harris/Decima offering free cash or gifts for mystery shopping or quality assurance studies.

These ads are false, and in no way associated either with Harris Poll Online or Harris Interactive. If you see any of these ads, you should contact the company directly at 800-600-2493 and report them.

  • I received an invitation to participate in some studies as a physician. I agreed to do it as to share my opinions and benefit the medical community. I participated in 2 lengthily studies and I was promised a pay of 60 dollars plus 40. It has been a year now, despite repeated e-mails, I was never paid.
    • I am a physician. The same thing happened to me. I sent several emails to Harris Poll and got no response. I do NOT recommend that anyone waste their time doing a survey for this disgraceful organization.
    • I've been trying for over 2 years to even see a catalog but have been unable to do so. They cheated me out of over 6,000 points a few years ago but now I am trying to cash in more all to o avail.
  • I joined Harris Poll fairly recently, and got to enough points for a $25 ecard. I applied for the card, immediately followed the directions, input the website I was given, and printed the ecard. This was all within 5 minutes of my applying. I am 72 years old, so if I can do it, it seems that others should not have a problem.
    • How did you do it? I have been trying for over 2 years to cash in point and have yet to find their catalog. Their helpline i as good as no helpline.
  • No customer service. Email not only hacked but the points I converted to Walmart gift card....I printed. Money no longer there. I'm good with class action. Their security breach is THEIR problem. And should make good their promise to pay the people who did the work. Am sure Harris Poll has been paid.
  • About a year and a half ago I got a $50 gift card from them with no problems at all. Today I'm having the same issues as everyone else here.

    The rewards site was down for 2 days this week, and the link for customer service from the DOB error pages are broken. Pretty inexcusable.

    I get a request a day and maybe 40% get me points. I agree that the surveys are poorly designed with lots of redundant questions. No more for me after I get my card.
    • Follow up on the above. They finally responded - and said the case was closed, and asked for confirming information. I gave it, heard nothing, and tried again. I finally filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The next day I got an email saying that my birth month was listed as a lot different from the real one. When I entered what they said it was, I was able to get my card.

      So they will respond with enough pressure. But people with the DOB problem should ask what Harris thinks you birth month is.
  • Frequently, you'll spend 15 minutes answering questions, only to have them suddenly say you weren't qualified. Half the surveys are so poorly designed that the answer you need to give isn't available (i.e., they'll ask which of a list of occurrences applies to you, but won't have a selection for "none of the above.") Customer service is a big fat joke; they reply to you request for help by brusquely asking for your date of birth and email address (hey, dumbass, it's the same one I emailed the help request from, as you well know." I've managed to receive $120 worth of Amazon $5 gift cards in 2 years. If you have ANYTHING better to do with your time, don't bother.
  • Just an FYI if anyone comes across this... it's easy to "earn" points, and it doesn't take too many surveys to "earn" a reward. In the first 60 days I participated I earned five $5 gift cards. Not a lot, but better than none. However, the gift cards never arrived. Harris claims 5 weeks, and it's been four months--with no gift cards in sight. I've stopped wasting time on Harris surveys, since apparently it's a scam
  • A total scam! When one contacts them to redeem points, they claim your birth date is incorrect which prevents redemption. They take your complaint and issue you a case number but never get back to you with any resolution. Best advice is to NEVER begin the Harris Poll scam.
  • I was with Harris poll for about 6wks. I didn't get a great amount of surveys, but I did make $10. Then for some reason I can no longer log in and they refuse to tell me why I've been banned. I take surveys everyday with more than a dozen other web sites and while I have had problems with some of them over not getting properly credited for completed surveys and other issues, NONE of them have ever complained to me about the way I take their surveys. In other words, I always have filled out and answered my surveys honestly and thoughtfully. But Harris has for some reason banned me and cheated me out of the money they owed me at the time they did it, and all without explanation. I WOULD RECOMMEND AVOIDING THEM, SINCE THEY TREAT THEIR PANEL MEMBERS SO BADLY.
  • I agree with the consensus. I've been using Harris Poll for many years. They used to be one of the better survey places. But for some reason they've become a complete waste of time, especially now that they rarely credit you any points for not qualifying. It really frustrates me, how, AFTER you've disqualified from the survey, as evidenced by the completion bar jumping from the beginning of the survey straight to the end, they have the audacity to continue asking you the same classification questions you have to answer at the end of surveys you've actually completed. And their customer support has gone from bad to utterly non-existent. I never get a response from any support requests I submit anymore. Though, before, like most customer support these days, the responses I've gotten were utterly unhelpful, as if being replied to by a computer that couldn't understand the inquiry or a person who didn't even bother reading more than the title of the email. But, over the years I've gone from qualifying for at least 50% of surveys to 10% at best. And when they have such a ridiculously convoluted and repetitious qualification to go through, the lack of even a non-qualifying payout is just too much to justify wasting my time with them anymore. On top, these days I'm finding of the surveys I do clearly qualify for, 1/3 of them will kick you out half-way through or even further along without provocation, just a "sorry you didn't qualify" or "survey closed" or "survey full" screen, when you clearly qualified and spent 30-60 minutes answering survey specific questions, or if the survey had already reached it's quota, it should have done that BEFORE stealing my time. And, I'd swear, anyone could prove in a court of law that the people who design these surveys are not competent to the task. Those that are, you'd think they were paying you minimum wage or something, as ridiculous as they've gotten about trick questions to try to make sure you're giving it your absolute fullest possible attention (which I ALWAYS do). Not legit trick questions, I'm talking sneaky stuff as if they're trying to con you out of your reward at the very end. Though, while I try to be as honest as is possible, it's sometimes hard to take a survey seriously when it has far too few answer choices to allow you do answer honestly, or forces you to chose one without a "none of the above" option, basically requiring you to lie, or inexplicably decides to focus a large portion of the survey asking detailed info and opinions about a company or product that you'd already indicated earlier in the survey that you have no familiarity with and thus couldn't qualify an opinion in the first place. If you've got time you want to waste and don't mind doing poorly thought out surveys for an average wage of 50 cent per hour, assuming you actually qualify, go for it.
  • I have been trying to cash in my points since last Friday (Apr 29) and it keeps kicking it back saying my birth month and year are not correct, then it blocks me. I'm 58 years old, pretty sure I know my DOB. I have been with them for many years, and have only started having trouble with them recently. At the start of their surveys, they have a disclaimer that states that you will receive 15 points if you are disqualified from their survey. Yeah...no. I had to email them within 3 days after each DQ and remind them they owed me the points. Fat lot of good that did - now I can't even use the points I earned. I have sent them 4 emails since the problem started...not a word. The fact that "My DOB is wrong" is in their customer support drop down menu makes me think I'm not the only one dealing with this mess. When and if I get cashed out, I'm gone. This company appears to be circling the drain. There are too many other legit survey companies out there where I don't feel I'm wasting my time.
    • You are not the only one. I have had issues since they "had" to change my password to a temporary one since there were security breaches in their system around April. I have been having an issue signing in since April 9th. The error message is "invalid security code". I have been complaining since day 1 and get back robotic replies with the same temp password or to remember that they are case sensitive, like I do not the difference between small and capital letters. I was finally referred to R. Walker and e-mailed him/her 3x without a reply. I finally asked them to tell me what my point balance is in June so I could cash out and nothing to date. I think I will hound them weekly and cc this mystery R. Walker until I get results because if and when I cash out I am done with this site.
