Prizes.org

Prizes.org is a new website from Slide, a Google subsidiary, where people looking for help with a problem can utilize the time and effort of a whole crowd of people to provide them with the best solution they can think of.

In order to get help your problem or project, you simply create a contest on Prizes.org and share it with the Prizes community, as well as on Facebook and Twitter. You post a prize amount of your choosing for the winner of the contest.

People submit their solutions or work to your contest, and the winner you choose gets to take home the cash prize. Simply join Prizes.org through Facebook or Twitter to get started.

Creating a Contest

In order to create a contest, you must purchase credits for the prize you will offer. One Prize.org credit will cost you $1.00.

When you create your contest, you must clearly write a description of what you are looking for in submissions, then give the prize amount and the length the contest will be open to submissions.

Blind contests allow only the contest creator to see their submissions. Prizes.org says this is intended to cut down on copying and increase the variety in submissions.

If you feel that no contest submission really solved your problem or completed your project, you can prolong the contest at an added cost. However, if your contest has received less than 5 submissions or less than 20 votes, you can extend the contest for seven more days, free of charge.

Entering a Contest

You are only allowed to submit one entry per contest, though you can alter your entry after submission if you need to.

If the contest creator decides not to choose a winner, then the submission with the most votes is declared the winner. Prizes.org encourages their contest entrants to share the contests on Facebook and Twitter to earn the most votes possible.

You can also refer your friends and family members to enter contests. If they should win the prize, you will receive 10% of that prize as a bonus for referring people to participate in Prizes.org contests.

After you have won money, you can request payment via PayPal at any time, but you must have at least 5 Prizes credits in order to cash out.

  • My husband and I love this site but there are some big issues. No one to complain to when a contest creator doesn't pay you. My husband won a $500 contest so we went to the website of the contest creator and it dissapeared. Gone. The contest with all of it's logos were gone. There is no one to pay my husband. It's a shame because it is such a fun and friendly site.I know 3 people who are still waiting for their money after 45 days and they are owed $1800 collectively. They won't see a dime. Everyone on the site is talking about leaving Prizes.org for the contest sites where you actually get paid instead of ripped off. A shame. I see this site going by the wayside because of the bad mojo going around due to fraudulent Contest Creators.
  • I won a contest 3 weeks ago and have yet to see the money. I wrote to Prizes.org last week and they said, basicly, don't worry. You'll get your money and that the contest had to be verified. Some people are saying they are getting paid within a few days, well, not me. No updates on the process, just a semi-rude email. I'm thinking they're not so hot.
  • I'm overcautious...why should i give my SSN and submit a W-9 form for only $20??? This smells like a scam to me...
  • You must see this contest if you think there are not scams in prizes.org.

A lot of designers were cheated by this fraudulent contest here!

  • one of the only trustable crowdsourcing sites, excellent support, excellent traffic, always contests active and money comes through on time. no cheats here, and if cheats try anything they get caught and banned. supercalifragiliciousexpedialidocious!
  • Personally, I had a successful time on prizes.org. I entered a few competitions and won one. I did not know the contest owner and won genuinely. I received the prize money and was able to transfer it to my Paypal account with approximately 15% deducted.

I can see how this site could be used by people to get ideas without paying for them, particularly with the logos and business name ideas competitions. And I agree with the other reviewer that it is impossible to know which of these competitions are legit and which are not.

For me, I found it a fun and different way to make money on the internet and wanted to offer a positive view.
    • now they charge 25% i think, still better than 99designs though, they have started taking 40%. The day is not far when the sites start taking 60%, PayPal takes 15% and the guy who did all the work will get 25%
  • The site itself is not a scam but many of the contest creators are. Here is how things on prizes.org are working out. some one creates a contest for lets say $250 and hundreds of contestants work hard on their idea. Now here's how many of us are getting scammed. Lets say the contest creator has asked us all to come up with an available domain name for their new business. They get hundreds of ideas and they promptly go off and register their favourites but awarding the winner to an account belonging either to themselves or someone they know, and, hey presto they get all that creativity and get to receive their prize money back.. its becomes totally free service for them. And if the use the free $100 credit prizes.org give you for signing up they actually make money out of the deal too.

This is without doubt what is going on much of the time, I know because I can see many times the winning entry for a domain name is never registered but a suggested name has been. in fact the last contest I entered the winning entry for a domain name was never registered but another entry that got no recognition was registered and by the contest creator Nick Gentile as proved by a search through the domain registrars. go see for yourself here http://prizes.org/Need-business-name-logo

I must say although there are a "lot" of scammers operating on prizes.org there are plenty of legitimate people running competitions BUT its just not knowing which ones they are.

I for one will not be bothering with this site any more I do believe many of us do have a talent and would be better taking it to freelance or similar.
