Real Writing Jobs Reviews – Legit or Scam?

RealWritingJobs.com is a website that’s designed to help people find a variety of writing jobs; they claim to have a ton of leads and are simply acting as middleman between writers and contractors.

These types of sites have been around before and usually provide mixed results. These sites work by using software which visits a collection of job search sites, freelance websites, and other areas online where work for writers gets posted. They then return these results in your members’ area.

In most cases these are real writing jobs and are usually put out by website and blog owners who want cheap labor to fill their sites full of content. Other examples may involve writing product reviews that again are used by webmasters.

The one thing you need to be careful of is overhyped promises of riches; you may have been told that you can get paid up to $125 for writing one article but that is by far the exception and definitely not the rule when it comes to working with sites like RealWritingJobs.com.

First off, the really high paying jobs require the ability to not only write well but to be able to write on highly technical issues like medicine or electronics. Second, if these jobs do get publicly posted they are reserved for highly experienced writers that can provide web references for their work.

Bottom line is, don’t get too excited about massive payouts. Realistically you’ll be looking at a range of $5 – $12 per article or blog post. The sad fact is that real writing jobs, along with other coveted online work, gets outsourced overseas, making it difficult for US based freelancers to compete and making them work for much lower pay.

Is RealWritingJobs.com a Scam?

Since RealWritingJobs.com does what they say they do – provide you with leads for real writing jobs – it’s not a scam in the sense that they are being blatantly deceptive. However, there have been issues in the past with their billing policy and the quality of their service.

RealWritingJobs.com used to require a monthly payment for continued membership access to their writing responsibilities, which was frustrating for members who were paying more to maintain their membership than they were often earning.

The website has addressed this issue, and they are now offering membership for a one time fee. This fee has changed over time and is currently quoted at $34.00, though the one time membership fee has been as high as $68.00.

Fortunately this one time fee is processed through Clickbank. This means their service also now comes with a 60 day, no questions asked guaranteed refund policy if you are not happy with the service they are providing.

  • On Sept. 2. I signed up with www.realwritingjobs.com for a trial membership. On the payment page it says

"Your $4.95 trial membership is for 7 days, at the end of your trial you'll be billed a one time fee of $77 for a lifetime membership"

I had a look at the jobs and payments and decided not to join them, so on 4th of September I sent email to www.realwritingjobs.com saying: IP: 60.224.32.152 Subject: declining full membership Dear editor. I paid the deposit on full membership on Sept 2. I understood that after 7 days you were going to charge my credit card the reminder of the full membership fee. After looking at the jobs available and what the payments are, I lost interest in that kind of work so I request NOT to be charged the rest of the fee. This email is well within the 7 day limit for making a decision about the full membership. Cheers, Vlado Date: 04 September 2010 16:53

Please remove me from all your mailing lists Cheers

    Vlado

This morning I found email from Paypal telling me that I was charged money for full membership of "Real Writing Jobs", in spite of my email to "real writing jobs" the day before yesterday.

There was no response from them, there were only messages on the phone, so I contacted Paypal and they said they have to wait until 25th of september and then the claim can be escalated.

Since 6th of September I heard nothing from realwritingjobs nor from Paypal. When I escalated the claim, this was their response:

You have chosen to escalate your dispute to a PayPal claim. By ending communication with the seller, you are asking PayPal to investigate the case and decide the outcome. As part of our investigation, PayPal reviewed any communication you may have had in the Resolution Centre.

Our investigation into the following transaction is complete. As stated in our User Agreement, the claims process only applies to the delivery of goods. It does not apply to complaints about the attributes or quality of goods received. Therefore, we are unable to reverse this transaction or issue a refund.

I just couldn't believe they could brush off my claim like this. Run as fast as you can from paypal. Their commission from all these scams is much greater then it will ever be from you.

Next I will try to contact Clickbank to see if they can help
  • Glad I decided to check first. Much better for my still-healthy retired heart to live on a bit less money, than to get an upset stomach over folks like this. Actually, the "comments" are a whole lot less "charitable than the reviewer was (that's why I marked "dreadful", since I have no actual experience with them.

For the record; as I left that site to come here, the drop-down "Don't leave" box offered a "reduced initial payment" of only $4.97, and a "one-time payment" of $47,for "lifetime access" to their site.

Was an employer for many years; have never "paid", before or since, to get work; don't need the "heartburn".

    Thanks for being here!
  • To Alyssa: If they are still trying to withdraw money, I'd suggest canceling the card and requesting the bank to send a new one. It's a bit of a pain, but this has saved me money due to similar scams I fell for. Always remember, why do you have to pay money for work? I know they usually come up with some grandiose excuse, but that's all it is in the end.

I'd like to meet someone who actually made decent money online without having to rip off hundreds/thousands/millions of people. Even just a supplemental income without screwing over others.
  • Wanted to update people on my case. It has a happy ending. I told Clickbank to refuse further payments, and now have it in writing from Realwritingjobs.com (via Clickbank) that it was a once only fee. I don't mind losing the fee - it serves me right for being stupid enough to sign up in the first place. All I can say to others out there is to make sure you have copies of everything to prove your case. Hope it all works out for the rest of you.
  • I'm afraid I've been sucked in too. Same story - 7 day trial followed by a supposed once only payment. I have tried to contact them to no avail also - three emails, and an actual letter, phone numbers don't work. I also lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in Nevada. Too soon to know if they will try taking monthly payments, but will try the Clickbank option suggested. I've also cancelled my credit card, so if they try they will have to contact me.
  • I tried Support@realwritingjobs and called the 800 number only to find it disconnected, I want out and i just signed on. I feel ripped off. Is this a scam? In my opinion YES!!!
  • I also signed up to this site for the 3 day trial, mainly because they didn't tell you much about what was involved until you had access to the site. I decided it wasn't for me and it isn't as easy as they make it out to be if you have no experience in writing. I sent an email to the customer support, (the link is right down the bottom of the page and you need a magnifying glass to see it). I requested them to cancel my membership and not to take out the full payment, of course I got no response.3 days later they took the full payment out of my account. I have sent several emails since to the site where you submit a ticket and also to [email protected]. It has been a week since my first email and 3 days since my last and still no response, not even an automatic response saying they have received it and will get back to me. I have just emailed clickbank so hopefully will get my money back that way.
  • Well written, fair assessment of this website. I really appreciate the quality of the article and that it's neither a slam nor an endorsement.
  • Thankyou Ramos for the info on the Clickbank and realwriters website.. I asked for a cancellation hopefully everything works out
  • alyssa.

You can easily handle this via Clickbank.

After you have paid for the trial you will have received a CB confirmation email. In it there is a link in case you need customer service. This directs you on a CB page where you have several options. Either cancel future payments or ask for a full refund.
