Toluna.com Reviews – Legit or Scam?

Toluna.comWe’re all familiar with the concept of taking online surveys in order to make money.  Toluna.com is a market research company offering you the chance to do exactly that, with a couple of twists.

First, Toluna.com does not give you direct payouts for every survey you complete like other companies.  Instead, they work on a point system.  You are given 500 points simply for signing up and at least 1,000 points for every survey you complete.  Once you reach 60,000 points, you can redeem these points for cash payouts.

Secondly, they also reward you with being a part of their social network, where you can create polls and opinion forums.  The more people respond to your polls, the more points you receive.

Finally, in addition to survey completion, Toluna.com also enters you into a drawing each month for the chance to win up to $2,500 just for being a member.  If you choose to, you can exchange 500 of your earned points for an extra entry into the monthly drawing.

So is Toluna.com a Scam?

The rule for determining if a survey company is a scam is whether or not you are charged for participating in surveys.  Toluna.com doesn’t charge their members for anything.  Your membership and participation are completely free.

Also, Toluna doesn’t make any outright earnings promises.  They don’t claim you can quit your day job, they just say you can make extra money.

But there are a couple things to keep in mind for being successful making money for taking surveys online.  First, make sure to sign up for multiple companies.  Surveys will only be given to you if you fit a very specific demographic.  Each survey company may only get a couple of surveys each month for your particular demographic.  If you sign up for multiple free survey sites you will be far more likely to get the number of surveys needed to actually make a couple extra hundred dollars a month.

Second, you need to do the research to see exactly how that survey company handles payouts.  With Toluna.com, you need to earn points before you can get your payout.  With other companies, you need to complete a certain number of surveys before you can be paid out, and with still other companies you need to reach a specific dollar amount before you can be paid out.  This is information you should have before you begin spending you can make money taking surveys.

  • Toluna was never the easiest ‘Get-Paid-To’ site to use – it wasn’t a scam but the offers and surveys it had weren’t great, plus they didn’t pay out a lot.

However, I have earned over $500 in around 18 active months on Points2Shop, which has a much better success rate on offers and pays out a lot more than Swagbucks. It’s not the greatest way of making money but if you have a spare 10/20 minutes every day, you can consistently make $3-5 from the comfort of your own home.
  • I spent so much time trying to take surveys, many that after answering many questions, was told that they were looking for a different profile. Many of the other surveys were a lot longer than I was led to believe. When I decided that Tulane wasn't for me and asked Tulane to send me a check for the money I'd earned I was told that Tulane no longer sends cash payments. One way I could get reimbursed was through PayPal but only after earning a lot more points than I'd already waisted my time taking. I don't want no fucking Paypay reimbursement Tuluna. I like many others, Im sure, want cash!! WOW, what a let down and MAJOR waist of my time. YOU SUCK Tuluna!!!! And the company's that I completed surveys for have benefited without compensating me. What a bunch of HORSESHIT!!!!
  • Scam merchants. I collected enough points for a £20 Amazon voucher at the start of December 2016 - still waiting. Then I collected enough for a £20 Amazon voucher at the beginning of January - still waiting. Now I have almost collected enough points for another £20 Amazon voucher (end of February) and low and behold they have cancelled my account. They sent me the bog-standard reply as all other people here "account violation, fraud, incorrect details filled in" or whatever. Complete rubbish. The real reason is they don't want to pay out the £60 they now owe me and are deliberately stealing from me. It is indeed nothing short of stealing as I have filled in loads of surveys and spent countless hours and days filling in such things. Theft!
    • Thank you! To all those who have relayed their experience with this company! You kept me from wasting my time! I find it suspicious so many ex customers say the same thing The company always responds to the remarks the same way. Yet you must be right in your acessement since so many ex customers all agree.
    • TOLUNA in Singapore

Surveys look legit. But Toluna engages in unfair trading practices. Answered seeming legit questions about established products/services. Was definitely in the target demographic. Then at what I felt was probably the end of the surveys, Toluna terminated surveys robbing me of 12,000 points. Need 20,000 to redeem vouchers.

A WASTE OF TIME PPL. AVOID IF YOU'RE EXPECTING ANY REAL POINTS.

Companies looking for survey companies should also avoid Toluna. Not only for their unethical practices, their practices deter your target demographic from engaging with them.
  • Toluna has been known to delete accounts once people reach 80,000-100,000 points since that's when you're able to redeem. They accuse everyone of "fraudulent activity" so they can avoid paying. They do not say what was the fraudulent activity and when asked will simply say you gave questionable answers and your account was flagged. Who knows what counts as fraud in their eyes, they're the ones dodging and banning people for no reason. If you were able to redeem for cash at some point, but now being told excuses when you try to redeem more you'll likely find your account deactivated too at some point. If you do manage to get your account reactivated you'll find your points erased and they'll tell you because they "expired." Liars.

  • I too have fallen foul of the Toluna machine I have been a member for about 3 years and apart from waiting weeks and weeks for payment and getting scrubbed out of large numbers of surveys after giving a great deal of information I amassed 287 000 points and already placed my order for £35 when out of the blue and after the three years I was barred my points stolen because of the same reason all the others I have seen on here were thrown out for a breach of the T&Cs I complained and was told they would pay me the last order for £35 so got a bit of a result still lost nearly £70 quid though anyway I think its a con trick as I was earning about £35 every 6 weeks they did not want to pay me anymore so use the standard excuse and get rid of you if they had a problem why not send a warning that you are breaching rules that you cannot know what you have broken when they bar you with explanation

So sod them they can do this but if you are thinking of joining it is such hard work you give your all and they take advantage I just count the money I have had from them and give all my efforts to other better more loyal sites The better sites out there think more of you !!

  • I took surveys with Toluna for many years. All of a sudden they cut me off from taking surveys and took back 82000 points that I had accumulated. They told me that I no longer qualified under their rules and that they had been tracking me, so they cut me off. When I contacted them they REFUSED to give me a reason as to why they took this action. Furthermore, they told me that I shouldn't even try to sign up again for surveys because they absolutely would refused to allow me get back on again. Don't know what I ever did to deserve this treatment after so many years. Well, good rid dins to them. I have other companies I take surveys with that don't treat me like Toluna treats their loyal members.
    • Hi Paula, Toluna only deactivates accounts of users that have gone against out terms and conditions.

Toluna holds the right to deactivate accounts if the member has either created abuse on Toluna.com by creating spam, harassment, or violence, or if the member has created abuse in surveys by providing wrong answers in multiple surveys or by providing abusive answers.

For abuse on the site, we will warn you before we deactivate your account, but in the case of fraudulent answers in our surveys, the deactivation is automatic and only takes place once the user has been flagged multiple times over an extended period of time.

However, if you feel that your account being blocked was unjustified then please contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy take a closer look at your case and help you in any way we can.

  • Toluna is beyond dreadful! Us.toluna.com is a scam of more than gigantic proportions! They scammed me out of my points and money and will not reply to emails or explain their actions. They don't collect consumer data; they collect victims to waste their time and energy and then scam you! I cannot tell you how many hours I spent working on these surveys and the like to again be scammed out of my points and money! Toluna, us.toluna.com, and of their affiliates and relations are awful, awful, and awful. I hope other victims come forward and tell their story. I am filing a complaint with the better business bureau. Thanks! Happy holidays! With thanksgiving in recent memory I would be thankful for Toluna's demise! Have a great day!
    • Hear hear! Toluna closed my account with no reason given other than I had broken their rules but would not tell me how I had done this. They are an awful company and I know they have done the same thing to many other loyal Toluna members with no justification whatsoever.
  • Yes, I too am getting a bit disillusioned with Toluna and can find no way to contact them..

The very best in my opinion are You Gov and Global, they are very fair.

Best of Luck to all my slave labour mates out there, don't let it steal all your free time. Liz
    • Folks,

I did a medical survey for Toluna in December, 2015 and was issued a check dated January 11, 2015. There was a note printed on the check saying it was invalid one year from issue date. My office received the check January 16 which meant the check was invalid.

It took six phone calls and several e-mails before a new check was issued.

The phone #s that worked were 203-846-5814 and 203-846-5853.

It is my opinion that they are avoiding payment.

My physician's assistant also receive a misdated check.

    • Further to my post yesterday. I finally did manage to contact Toluna and this was their response...very reassuring I would say.

      SEE BELOW:

Thank you for your email. Usually, when you complete a survey, it is listed in your account with the entry "project open" posted next to the number of the survey. Sometimes, it is possible that the participation status in your account is incorrectly displayed as "Prize Draw Entry" instead of “Project Open”, even if you have successfully completed the study. This happens because some of the surveys you take part in are hosted by our clients and there might be a routing issue when you are re-directed to the Toluna site.

However, once we receive from our clients the list of participants who have completed the study, the status always changes and the points are awarded. For this reason I kindly ask you to wait a few weeks for the study to close so that we could check your participation status and credit the points to your account.

      Thank you for your understanding.

Have a pleasant day and regards,
  • Their surveys most often involve several to many minutes of answering questions in a lot of different areas and then being told you don't qualify. They have a lot of information for nothing but my time. I am very leery of starting any of their surveys.
  • Well looking at all these bad reviews is baffling to me. I have NEVER had a problem with them, have Never been spammed by email or phone, Yes i get emails about various surveys on their website but i like that means i dont miss out. Its a little annoying when you are half way through a survey and it says it has just been filled but tbh that;s just life in general i get £35 paypal credit every month and a halfish no problem. If i do have problems like a survey not working they get the problem fixed straight away. I would definitely recommend this site to others. People saying its time consuming well do you ever get paid for doing absolutely nothing in life. It does take a couple months from joining to get enough points for something but after that its should just roll around. And to be totally honest its a survey its not like you are doing intense hard manual labour.
    • I often get screened out after quite a long time, so tonight I checked for my 5000 points after I had completed 100%. All it said was, "entered into competition" ..a waste of 40 minutes..also they say Contact us, but the link doesn't work.

I have spent some points for a Voucher, so I will post again if I receive it. Meantime I am wary of doing anymore surveys.
