The Transcribe Anywhere Course, found online at TranscribeAnywhere.com, is a new training program which created by Janet Shaughnessy, professional transcriptionist and owner of Zoom Transcription Services for the last 10 years.
She created her Transcribe Anywhere Course to give people an opportunity to run their own independent business and meet regular professional challenges from the comfort of their own home.
In addition, anyone who signs up for this course will receive lifetime membership, which automatically entitles them to updates and new information whenever it is available.
What to Know
Janet Shaughnessy says that one of the worst misconceptions about transcription is that it’s an easy work at home option that only requires typing skills to be successful. She is very clear that this is a gross oversimplification of what transcribing really entails.
Because she doesn’t want any of her customers to be “duped” into becoming a transcriber, she says that there are seven different questions that people will need to ask themselves before knowing if this opportunity is right for them.
These questions are all about whether or not you are self-motivated and disciplined, possess strong organizational and time management skills, and are comfortable working alone without supervision and feedback?
She also asks people to consider whether or not they will be flexible to changing deadlines and have an appropriate work environment at home to make sure they can successfully meet their challenges.
The Course
Because Janet Shaughnessy is so concerned about her customers’ ability to succeed in transcription, she offers a free seven lesson course program before she ever asks customers to invest in her full program.
This course will teach you exactly what transcription is, what you will need to be successful in transcription, nine signs that you might not be a good transcriptionist, and how much you can earn in this field.
If, after taking the free course, you feel as though you are ready to purchase the full course you can do so for a single payment of $497.00, or customers are welcome to break the course up into modules and pay for them individually: $97 for the first module, $200 for the second, and $200 for the third. This totals the exact price of buying the course at a single time, so customers aren’t penalized for choosing to pay for it in increments.
Janet Shaughnessy likes to say that Transcribe Anywhere was the first "school" to be listed as a training provider on the AAERT website as an official school, but to be listed there all she was required to do was to submit a made-up curriculum and pay a fee, which she renews every three years.
If you truly want to do transcription work (which pays very low), go to Rev or TranscibeMe and do their tests and follow their style guides. It will give you a great idea about what the work is and how it needs to be done. If you want to make great money at it, look for local colleges that offer real professional training and a certification that will be recognized by employers and show them that you earned it and know what you are doing.
