UserTesting.com

UserTesting.com is a website dedicated to finding your website’s biggest problems in one hour, and then providing you with the information and feedback you need to improve your site’s usability.

UserTesting.com gives you the ability to create a test for your website and then have real people take the test and give you feedback via video recording, while they are using the site. You can also ask them follow up questions for further information.

For each participant you would like to test, you must pay $39, with a current coupon of $30 off orders over $100 for new clients. Also, if you are looking for extra income from home, UserTesting.com allows people to sign up as website testers.

Testing Your Users

You can choose to create your own test, or use a test template based on the area of your website you would like to examine. You can also test competitor websites, prototype sites, Facebook games, or mobile sites and applications.

Once your test is created, you can choose a market to test, either from picking participants from the UserTesting.com site, which will allow to pick the demographics of the market you would like tested, or from a pool of your website users, or you can arrange to have new users to your site prompted live to see if they will participate.

Finally, after you have received and compiled all your data from your test participants, you can edit, make notes, create clips of the videos, combine the clips into a highlights reel, and then share the reel and the notes with the coworkers who will help you improve your site based on your new information.

The Work at Home Opportunity

You can also choose to work as an at home User Tester for the website if you are looking for a way to make some extra money. UserTesting.com will pay you $10 for every website you test, and each test averages around 20 minutes.

You must be at least 18 years old with your own PC or Mac that has the ability to record your voice via microphone. In addition you must have a high speed internet connection and be able to successfully complete a test run with your equipment for UserTesting.com.

If you meet all these qualifications, you then must fill out a one page questionnaire with all of your demographic information – such as age, race, ethnicity, region of the country you live, education level, and sometimes more. This information is important as it is what is used to see if you qualify for certain website testing, depending on what market the client is targeting.

Average Rating for " UserTesting.com Coupon " is 2.6 out of 5 based on 50 reviews.
  • No matter how thorough your review, a client can simply rate you poorly and user testing will NEVER have your back. I found several actual bugs, disliked the tone of a website, spent 25 minutes, and didn't get paid.

Avoid this site AT ALL COST. It's a scam and a gamble if you get paid.
  • I just had my payment declined to low rating. I did the test just fine and the customer didn't like that I've mentioned that some link didn't work. That's all! I've just got an email from them that my payment is declined. Don't waste even one minute with them.

My qualification test got approved the day I did it and my first test was rated with 5 stars! It was a peek test and I have a pending payment of $3 for that now, minus the $10 for the low rating I got ...
  • do you really get your money?
    • I did get payment for my initial test AND for a subsequent 'dangling carrot' test. After your paypal account has been confirmed to them, you will only get tons of surveys but no more paid tests. They want your personal data, NOT your service.
  • A HUGE waste of time - this is a sum up of my review.

I do not believe it is a scam. However, I have been offered dozens of tests and I never qualified. They always ask me the exact same stupid questions to see if I qualify - like they can't just save the answers and use them for screening. All I've seen from this website is a screening test after a screening test. And they keep offering me to test mobile apps although I said in the beginning I do not want to do that. I keep receiving invites for the same test even though I declined it or did not qualify. Not one test done. As I said, a huge waste of time. I am from Denmark btw, it could be different for the US and the UK.
    • It is an incredible waste of time. Believing you could make any money based on their endless screens (both on smartphone and PC) is pure hope.

They already have a profile, yet persist in additional surveys of their testers. I think with some, the companies are using their "testers" who are contract workers to complete surveys for which the company gets paid. This is here say since I have no facts, but my opinion is that there is something fishy. May be certain people are favored for unknown reasons. Or, the incredible number of people waiting for tests is so vast, the probability is small to receive them.

I'm in the US--as the previous post said, not one test in 10 days of leaving the site open so I don't loose notifications. Yet I get at least 4 surveys to eat up my time from other projects.

I rate it less than one star.
    • after all that do you still get paid?
  • So of the site itself is legitimate then my next question would be, don't they check what kind of sites are being tested? Does anyone even look at them? The site I got was a virus FOR SURE. Do they not have any accountability for the "customers" they take on? I'm writing the BBB about this.
    • You could run it in a Virtualbox desktop, that's what I do (because privacy/Linux/virusses)
    • Just so you know since we are talking about scams: the BBB is a scam. It's not a government agency. It is a fornprofit organization that extorts businesss. If you want to make a difference report it to the FCC and to the site administrator.
  • Oh, it is a scam...believe me. I want through the whole process to get set up, etc. And when I chose a 5 min. Test to start with, the web page opened and it was some creepy face from "Saw" flashing and some super loud noise. I couldn't close the screen until I just skipped through the questions. They said $10 for everything, not $3. After that, I spent hours running anti virus malware programs on my of and my phone.TOTALLY FAKE.
  • UserTesting is an excellent way to make some extra cash. You definitely can't expect to make a full time income doing this, but it provides some nice spending cash. I find the tests to be very enjoyable and the compensation in more than fair for your time.
    • Yes, you can go through lots of test and not get picked. But, I have made some money with Usertesting. One time,I made like 60- 70 in one day! I kept qualifying for testing that day. There are days where I may not qualify for any. It is legit. When I first started test some were for $3.00,but I have not seen any since I signed up 3 years ago.
  • Is this true people money got stolen? Seems really crazy!
  • I do not understand these reviews. It is a totally legit website where I already earned hundreds of dollars in not even a year. You won't get rich but it is a really nice and easy (for me) side income.

When I have a problem I write to the support and in about 2 hours (max. 24hours) I get an answer.
  • I really wish I could leave a review that deals with actually working with this company. Alas, I cannot. Instead, I will have to leave a review regarding how ridiculously awful the sign-up process is, as well as their poor user support. I signed up with my regular gmail account, downloaded the installer to my desktop (as directed) and tried to launch the program once the installation process finished. Instead of creating a proper sample review, I get a 'Files not found' and a long string that informs me that my account number does not exist.

Seriously, I'm on Windows 10, have the recommended microphone and headset and tried installing it as an administrator, among other things (restarting the computer, going directly to my administrator account to see if that would work, and creating a new account using an alternative email address). Nothing worked. When I tried to contact their tester support people, I got nowhere. Nothing they suggested worked, or their suggestions were things that I had already done in an attempt to fix the issue. I'm not very happy with the outcome and if their lack of knowledge about their own recording software is any indication of their overall technical and business acumen, I can't say I'd recommend this company to anyone, user or client.
