Western Sky Financial

Western Sky Financial is an installment loan company who claims that you can get up to $2,525 in your checking account overnight by completing an application that takes less than 5 minutes to fill out.

Western Sky Financial operates within the boundaries of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, which is a sovereign nation within the United States. It is owned by an individual within that nation and not the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation itself.

Recently, the Western Sky commercials have been generating a lot of buzz online, mostly because people find them humorous but also because some people are questioning the claims made in the commercial, specifically your ability to receive thousands of dollars overnight.

It Is Expensive, But There Is No Collateral Required

In the commercial, the spokesman claims “Yes, the money is expensive, but there is no collateral required.” This is a common theme within the payday loan industry.

Before you borrow money from Western Sky, look at their Rates page which describes the APR as well as the loan fee that will be assessed depending on the loan amount you are requesting.

The APR, or Annual Percentage Rate, is the amount of interest you will be required to pay back within a year. When loan companies do not require collateral or high credit scores to approve a loan, it is generally because the APR they charge is extremely high.

In the case of Western Sky, the lowest available APR is 116.73% and can be as high as 215.03%. This means that if you borrow $5,000 from Western Sky at 116.73% APR and take the full 84 months to pay it back, you will have paid $35,872.72 in interest.

The Bottom Line on Western Sky

In the US, individual states have laws that govern payday loan companies and are meant to protect the borrowers from extreme APRs and unrealistic payback schedules.

In the past when Reviewopedia has reviewed online payday loan companies, I have pointed out that borrowing from an online company that is based in another state may make it difficult for your state laws to protect you from predatory lending practices.

In the case of Western Sky, this is further complicated by the fact that Western Sky is based in the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, which acts as an independent nation within the US, meaning that you could potentially have no protection from them at all.

  • WESTERN SKY IS THE SAME AS A MAFIA LONE SHARK IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL,IF IT WERE YOU OR ME WE WOULD BE ARRESTED...
  • Your a FOOL if you borrow money from Western sky or any payday loan co .
  • With all due respect and understanding that desperate people do desperate things, to those who contracted with Western Sky, did any of you read the interest on the loans you were taking, or were you simply focused on the easy money you were getting? C'mon...100% interest rate? A 300% interest rate and $375

upfront fee? Think, people...think! You're keeping SOBs like this in business.
  • From what I saw on tv I figured out 743.99 x 86 is that $63983.14. How can that be allowed legally. Their looking for desperate people who only seek financial relief of some major problem in these hard times. They should be ashamed of putting people through this, borrow $ 10.000 and pay $ 53.983.14 in interest. Because they are indian and follow their own rules and laws. Makes me mad every time I see the commercial. Seems like the television companies wouldn't allow such a scam to their customers.

  • I heard the commercial that wii help me to get a loan up to $10.000 and that was o.k. to me but all I want is just $2.000 I told them that I have bad credit but my credit score is going up becouse I been working on it. They will not even work with me or look at my credit out. After I saw the other reviews from other people I am glad I am not getting the loan.
    • Thank you for this post! On August 31, 2013 I went through this matching company called 365 Day Loan for help on a loan for 2000.00 and I was matched up with Western Sky Financial. The reply that came back stated that I would receive a call within the next few minutes, but that call never came and now after reading your post and other peoples posts, I will not be doing business with them even if they do decide to call me.
  • Being a Native American and living on a Reservation, most Reservations are a ward of the Government and therefor fall under federal laws. Reservations have their own laws, law enforcement etc. But also they fall under federal jurisdiction and a case on a reservation can be tried through U.S. District courts! There really is no such thing as "Indian Land" Or "Native American Land" "Federal Trust Land" is the correct analogy. I have seen many companies try to establish a bussines within a Reservation Boundry mainly to recieve tax exempt status. And in this case wich seems to me they are trying to be untouchable. We are all just casulties of our own ingnorance. We see something that looks enticing and we go for it. So its up to each individual to investigate and get educated before making a commitment. But if anyone is caught up and fell for this Western Sky laon. Look into a good atounrney that is familiar with Native American Laws and also handles Federal cases. Trust me, they are not untouchable, it just cant be done through local and state laws!
