Legal Shield (www.MyLegalShield.com) is new name of PrePaid Legal, which is an innovative type of legal insurance company. The concept behind Legal Shield was formulated when the founder had a terrible car accident in 1969.
He realized he had car insurance and medical insurance, but no form of insurance to cover the large legal bills he incurred as a result of the accident. In response to this incident, he created a legal services company that acts similar to any other insurance.
Members pay monthly fees for a package that has a variety of coverage, and if something should happen while they are covered, they will not only have representation but many fees will be prepaid, hence PrePaid Legal.
What Kind of Coverage Is Offered?
The most popular plan offered by Legal Shield is the family plan, which costs $26 a month and provides coverage for problems that occur with motor vehicles, possible trial defense, and IRS audit assistance.
This package also includes preventative legal assistance, which covers things like creating a will and updating it yearly, as well as a 25% discount on legal areas not covered in the other included areas.
Legal Shield also offers packages that handle identity theft, which is one of the fastest growing areas where average citizens require representation.
Legal Shield as a Business Opportunity
Much like car insurance, Legal Shield is sold by independent representatives with a network marketing compensation plan. To become a Legal Shield independent representative costs a one time fee of $249.
Commissions are paid in yearly advances to their associates, and associates have the ability to build residual income if they are able to retain clients who maintain memberships longer than one year.
But while there is excellent opportunity for independent earning with Legal Shield, being an independent representative for any company is hard work.
Legal Shield does its best to give their representatives leads on new customers who have shown interest in their services, but it is still the responsibility of the associate to find and sign up new members and to ensure that they are satisfied enough with their service that they remain active clients.
now its oct. and we haven't heard from him so we called and he said the he hadn't even looked into it. we are still paying legal shield and we got a letter from the them asking for more money to renew our contract. we've been doing this for at least three years. the first time we joined they took out $200 from our account and whatever the monthly fee was. we couldn't get head or tails on how to use it.
the first year we dropped them, but sometime later we joined again. so that's when we got their lawyer and we are not satisfied with the outcome.
That said, I'm not going to try and convince anyone if it's a scam or not, because that's an opinion that some people have about any MLM.
The issue here, though, is how you use it.
I need to update my will annually because of my IT business, my wife is dealing with her ex husband and their children, and I don't know about you but I can't afford to make a phone call at 11:30 at night when I'm on my way to a hospital after a car accident.
Plenty of people save piece of mind and money with this service, just like plenty of people enjoy AAA/CAA services.
What it comes down to is this .. the service is either worth it to you because you will use it, or the service isn't worth it because you would choose not to use it when situations come up that it can benefit you.
Gimme a shout if you want more personal details from me ... I've used LegalShield as a customer and am now an associate because of those situations and because I believe in the service, not because I want to make a few bucks.
I went crazy looking for online opportunities and finally found the "diamond-in-the-rough." It is called LegalShield.
Let me just share this; I have owned many small business in my life and have spent thousands in down payment money only to have the business fail and never getting back any of my upfront investments. When a co-worker told me about LegalShield, I jumped right into it.
This is a MLM networking business that has paid me back my investment within two months of buying my association. As I continue to grow I continue to earn commissions, bonuses, and these two lead to residuals.
This business supplies me with very valuable, professional advertising propaganda, several websites to display the business to others on line and with direct contacts.
Yes it is an MLM, and you do get something of value back as a member. As an associate you get much more plus the opportunity to earn a really nice income. This business has 1.4 million members; is recognized by 80% of the attorney generals, offers company cars and all inclusive paid vacations as a reward for hard workers.
Only those that participate and don't invest an effort eventually quit and write bad reviews. It is really hard to fail because your support line comes from the top and if you succeed, we succeed and we help each other out.
There is often a cover for a pyramid scheme that makes it appear the compensation will come from something other than recruitment. Some might offer a work-at-home job opportunity for the the fee. But the work is simple and and entirely secondary to earning compensation. Sometimes they are dressed up as multilevel marketing (MLM) organizations, selling a product through direct sales.
How about you call up 15 lawyers, get the proper consultation you would like and see how much that costs you and get back to us. I'm just saying ;)
It's just like people told go to a "good" college but who can't get a good job, or people who "qualify" for a mortgage they really can't afford. It's bad business and it's unfair. That's a legitimate weakness of LegalShield's (or Avon, Quixtar, Longaberger, etc etc) network distribution model - are you dealing with a fair businessperson?
If you're joining LegalShield because you NEED to make money NOW (like a JOB), carefully look at the effort versus income, and make an self-motivated decision. There are many reasons the company promotes selling LegalShield for part-time income. It's not a job. It's a marketing and sales opportunity.
Stay classy,
Cole
