Beezid.com

Beezid.com is a popular penny auction site that has recently started advertising on TV, making it one of the larger auction sites and, of course, making it one that people have a lot of questions about.

A penny auction site, for those of you that don’t know, is an auction site where each bid you place is limited to one penny.  This results in items that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars being sold for an unbelievably low fraction of the cost.

However, the difference between a penny auction and a standard auction website, is that at a penny auction site you must pay for each bid that you place.  In general, these bids can cost anywhere between 50 cents and $1.00 per bid.  So when you see that an item has sold for $50.00, remember that means it sold for 5000 bids, and even at 50 cents a piece that means the true sale price of the item is $2,500.00.

At Beezid.com, there is not standard price per bid.  You buy a package of bids, and the larger (and more expensive) package you are willing to buy, the cheaper each individual bid is – as low as 60 cents a bid.  But if you are unwilling to invest a lot of money into Beezid bids right away, and would like a smaller and cheaper package, you could actually pay 90 cents per bid.  This means when you bid “one penny” each time, you are actually out almost one dollar per bid – and that could get expensive really fast.

So is Beezid.com a Scam?

In general, I don’t recommend any penny auction websites.  It has been well documented at this point that penny auction sites are far more like gambling sites than they are auction sites.  Real auctions don’t make you pay for the right to bid, nor do they limit you to a specific bid amount.  In a penny auction site, if you lose the auction, you lose money.

The other problem with all penny auction sites is that the website acts as both seller and auctioneer.  There is no third party to ensure that the behavior of the seller and buyer are appropriate.  You’ll read complaints all over the internet of people who had the last bid on a penny auction site, were declared the winner, and then the auction magically started again with more people bidding and the price being driven up.  Beezid.com itself has had these complaints.

But who are you supposed to complain to?  The website?  Who just earned a lot more money from letting the auction continue longer than it should have?  Pretty much 100% of customers report that their responses in reporting these types of problems is the website claiming a “computer glitch” and apologizing for not being able to do anything.

And the problem with penny auctions is that in these cases, you don’t just lose the item you were trying to win when these “computer glitches” happen, you also lose money.  This is why I tell people to stay away from penny auctions in general.

As for Beezid.com, they have had all the above complaints and then some.  People have reported serious issues with their customer service, most specifically repeatedly receiving automated general help responses instead of a real email that addresses their specific questions and concerns.  Customers report having to email and call repeatedly before having their problems addressed.

Another problem that is unique to Beezid.com, is the fact that they have no “Buy It Now” feature.  Those of you familiar with penny auctions know the Buy It Now feature allows the losers of any given auction to buy the item they were bidding on at full retail price, less the amount of money they spent on bids trying to win it.

So if you were bidding on a $300 iPhone, and spent $90 in bids trying to win it, but still lost, for an extra $210 you can just purchase the item from their site.  In this way you lost the auction, but at least you haven’t lost all the money you invested in trying to win it.

On Beezid.com, however, there is no Buy It Now feature.  So if you lose $90 bidding on an iPhone, you have really just lost $90.  For all these reasons, I would recommend staying away from Beezid.com.

  • At age 67 I always go by the "live and learn" philospy. Unfortunetly I'm still learning.
  • At first I was not sure about Beezid.com and if it would be worth my while or not. I tried other penny auction sites before and they went ok but I can't say I actually came out on top. For Beezid, it's a different story. When I first signed up they gave me 20 free bids or so and guess what..I won 3 items with them. I paid for them (only a few cents each) and received them a couple of weeks later (their biggest shortfall is how long it takes to receive an item you won).

So I decided to invest $33 or so for their basic bid pack (make sure to use promo codes which you can find on their site). Next thing I knew I was wining multiple auctions with bids included and kept on going for a while. It's not always easy to win but if you pay attention to how others are bidding you cna generally win atleast the amount you invested.

Their agents on the phone are generally fantastic! I speak with them once in a while when I buy a bid pack. If you have already bought a bid pack then always call in when you're ready to buy more bids as they usually give you a better bang for your buck (just for calling in!).

I went form thinking penny auctions were very hard to win (in general) to finding myself hooked on their site. IF you win something you don't really want, you can "flip" it and post it in their store for someone to buy (on a side note their store has great deals if you're just looking to buy something and all you need is to register to be able to buy form their store).

In the past 5-6 months since I have started bidding on their site I've won tons and tons of items.

Here are some the items I have won and just to let you all know, I spent a little less than $300 of my own money as a grand total for all of these (did I mention that almost everything has free shipping Canada/USA?): - Carson 7 X 18MM Golf Scope ($0.03) - Tekton Home Project Tool Set - 3pc ($0.06) - Cyber Acoustics Computer Speaker System ($0.16) - Super Bright Multifunction LED Torch ($0.19) - Chefs Basics 6-Piece Stainless Steel BBQ Set ($0.03) - Juicebar PowerTube ($0.12) - Travel+Leisure 3 in 1 Digital Camera ($0.15) - I won this item twice - Color Changing LED Wax Candle Set ($0.10) - Solar Ceramic Lantern - Set of 2 ($0.06) - Game Dancing Water Light and Fountain Show ($0.38) - Tru Three Crock Buffet Slow Cooker ($0.35) - I won this item twice - Jim Beam Poultry & Steak 8pc Mini Thermometer ($0.03) - Solar Weather Monitor ($0.06) - Vintage Style LED Lantern Set of 2 ($0.14) - Swann Air Conqueror Gyro Balanced RC Helicopter ($0.26) - The LEGO Movie ($3.55) - I won this item twice - Rio 2 ($0.66) - Motorola Talkabout 22 Channel 20 Mile Two-Way Radios ($0.23) - Solar Garden Lanterns 4pk ($0.47) - Boogie Board LCD Writing Tablet ($0.09) - I won this item twice - Godiva Love and Kisses ($0.35) - HP Deskjet Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer ($2.59) - Porter Cable 18V Bare Circular Saw with Laser ($0.41) - Whetstone 10.5" Straight Razor ($0.07) - Lipper Acacia 7pc Salad Bowl Set ($0.32) - Trademark Home Easy Installation Shower Dispensing Station ($0.95) - Shark Cordless Pet Perfect II Hand Vac ($0.25) - Blended (DVD) ($0.76) - Dazzlepro Teeth Whitening Pen 3 Pack ($0.47) - Nostalgia Magic Hard Candy to Cotton Candy Maker ($4.85) - Dewalt 14pc Black Oxide Drill Bit Set ($0.05) - Earth Medullary Ray Wooden Watch ($11.03) - Hamilton Beach Premiere Cookware Electric Griddle ($0.54) - Madden NFL 15 (PS4) ($0.13)

Not too bad for under $300…..

Now I've won a many more items but when they are out of stock they offer you a replacement item or a credit that can be used to buy bids or items in their store. All the items I've listed above are the ones I've actually received in the mail.

I generally just take the money and re-invest in bids.

Anyways, my 2 cents is that it's definitely worth trying out beezid, I know that I have been really lucky with my bidding but I also use a strategy that seems to be working well for me.
  • Hello. I've been to Beezid and Quibids, but only as an observer. I've never lost or won an auction or spent a single cent so you could say that I'm objective when I say that:

    A) One of the real reasons that the penny auctions make money, other than the underlying mathematics of the bidding system, is that relies heavily on human emotions such as greed, fear, and bad money management. If you were to use the buy it now feature on the other sites then you could always break even.

    B) The real problem with Beezid, by far, was that I didn't think of it first.
    • they actually do have a buy it now feature. haven't tried it, but the link is there.
    • Brad, I wish everyone would think like this. It isn't a scam, it is basically a gamble. So annoying to read that everyone got ripped off...you don't get ripped off if you read all of the details.
  • They advertise on Faux News Channel, what do you expect? Not "fair and balanced"...
  • Yes... I was one of the curious-idiots... Spent $70 on a bid package, and never stood a chance at winning. I immediately cancelled the account. If the time would actually run out, it might be more enjoyable... but to have it reset to 15 seconds after each bid??? That got old after 20 minutes.
  • If something sounds too good to be true ..it's because it is.
  • junk dont waste your time. everything so far has been a ripoff
  • I bought into all their bull and lost around $500.

You are Guaranteed to win as a biginner. That is a joke!!! I won a set of earphones (the little ones that fit in your ear and a pen)

Never recieved them. also ended up costing me $500 on purchases of bid packages that i won.

The fact is , you will only end up winning bid packages of bids , then you have to pay for them.

This was the biggest waste of money that i have ever been involved with. They should be sued by class action and all the money returned to those scamed.
  • I was a member of the site and was rocking through it but since they have made changes and have increased the cost of bidding which use to be 1 bid at the cost of 60 cents now most of your biddings may cost as much as $3 to $10 per bid. Most of the bidders who are bidding outrages amounts seem to be there employees just to make it look fun and alive so Save your money!!
    • Thank you I was almost going to bid but heard a lot of people's input and thank god I did not do this and thank you too it does seem that you are right there is something funny about this site and I kinda new that there employees would do something like this I felt the same thing too
  • What about the Xbox one?
