Davison Inventions

Davison Inventions (www.InventionConcept.com) is a company that claims to take people’s ideas of new inventions, and turn them into reality. Davison says that it will take your idea through all the steps necessary to get your invention onto the market, from research and development to licensing to getting it onto the shelves.

Davison’s website claims that you have the ability to submit your idea to them knowing that you have full confidentiality and protection.  Once your idea is submitted, you will receive a one on one consultation about the viability of your idea, and whether or not you should begin the process to take your idea further.

Davison claims to have a variety of agreements available for potential clients.  Some services they offer will require you to pay one time, up front fees, while others will require you to commit to an agreement where Davison receives a percentage of royalties from your invention.

From Dream to Reality

“Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door.” From the time that man created fire, there has been an innate desire to come up with better ways of doing things. If you take a minute to look around you, at the things we take for granted every day, you’ll see the evidence of people’s invention dreams that came to life.

But, unlike the picture painted in Hollywood films, most of these inventions weren’t created in someone’s basement and then magically appeared on the market. Inventions must go through an intense process of research and development – is it truly an original invention? Is there someone else out there with a comparable idea or existing product? Is this invention already in the works?

At times an idea must be patented, which can be an expensive and complicated process. After that, an invention must often be licensed to another company or corporation to produce and distribute, because individuals usually lack the money necessary to fund the actual supply of product needed for the market.

Davison Inventions claims to help you through this long, arduous process, and to get your invention on the shelves of major retailers like Target, WalMart, Home Depot, and others.

Davison Inventions Success Stories?

Well, the truth is that when you research Davison Inventions, you are going to hear much more about heartbreak and failure than you will about success stories.  In fact, Davison was ordered to pay $26 million in restitution to former clients after they were sued by the Federal Trade Commission and lost.

The lawsuit determined that clients of Davison would often pay upwards of $10,000 toward costs and services, and that less than 1% of their clients ever saw a return higher than what they invested with Davison.

In addition, they were told to stop promoting themselves as being linked to major retailers. However, if you look at their current website it seems fairly obvious that they are walking a fine line in adhering to this court order.

Their landing page is covered in logos from major retailers, with information offering that inventions processed through Davison are sold at all of these stores. While there is no official statement saying they have a relationship with these companies, the implication is still there.

Finally, the lawsuit ordered that Davison refrain from acting as though their services are selective, since they were found to take anyone’s idea through the research and development process as long as they paid the fees. This is a bad sign for those looking to process an invention, because it means that you can’t trust Davison’s evaluation of your invention’s potential.  If they are simply willing to take everyone’s money who comes to them, it’s easy to see how 99+% of their customers never saw a profit from their dealings with Davison.

  • Oh dear God was this place terrible! I worked there for a little over a month and knew in my first week it wasn't for me. Can you say scam? Employees read a script and aren't allowed to elaborate on anything that's not written down for them. There's an answer for every question you could be asked in that damn book (which is against company policy to take home). Additionally, if a "director of new products" doesn't meat their quota for the month the ax falls and you become replaceable, that us if your not public ally humiliated by your peers while they provide you with "constructive criticism".
  • So, I responded to the voicemail about the company they had presented my idea to had rejected it. I asked Barbara to send my prototype to me asap as I was not willing to give them another dime. Well, it took 2+ years to get to this point but only 1 day for her to send me a form to essentially say they have fulfilled their obligation and its over but not without 1 more twist. I have the option of them just sending my prototype (it could be broken because they said they were not responsible for shipping)and it would be 3 weeks or they could locate and fix the prototype if broken but they don’t give a time frame when they would send it. What a bunch off crap, this is so upsetting. I don’t think I should have to sign anything to get my prototype sent to me, after all, it is mine, as they kept telling me. I want to throw up thinking about all the money I have wasted thinking they could help me!

  • I have given Davison over 8k to produce and market my idea, Jeff Sawyer, the VP, said he had never heard of such an idea and thought it was a great product. I did some some research but I guess not enough. I really thought my idea would be simple to produce and sell. I just heard that the company did not want to pick up my idea..so sorry..if I want to try another company that would be another $300+ to repackage and represent. I patented for a year $125, which is probably about up. I have a terrible feeling that Im going to see my idea in the stores by someone else. I am so depressed, that money was from a severance package after getting laid off from my job of 21 years otherwise I would not have had that kind of money and I guess wouldn’t be in this mess now! I really had high hopes and now that I got “the call” that my idea is essentially dead to them…ugh….
    • WOW ...I was also unfortunate myself. I have already given them money I could have used for myself and child. I will admit being a single mom i feel like desperation controlled most of this. I don't have money to waste. I feel disgusting. really wishing i saved my idea instead of trusting them with it. $400 and I asked them to return it. They told me i have to 'wait' until their call back on Monday to know 'what they can do'...smh
  • I have given these people thousands of dollars only to be talked to and treated with utter disrespect. I JUST discovered this web post... I am absolutely sick. They win the prize for the CARROT DANGLER AWARD of all time! They play on peoples hopes and dreams and produce a sham for a design and then demand more money and signed agreements with a promise that in the end the actual product will be just what you want. Of course they want all of your money and a signed agreement releasing them from liability. I have paid them almost ten thousand dollars and have gotten nothing but condescension, rudeness and threats that if I don't agree to their design I will just have to wait another 6 weeks for a redraft. Never mind that I was assured from day 1 that if I was not pleased with the design that they would work with me until I was. I would like all of us to unite and file a class action suit. • Check out quirky.com Seems a lot more legit. Unsure of all the details but worth looking into. I have no affiliation just found it while doing my homework.
  • I really wish that I came across the page before I sent in my first payment! But better late then never. I am at the pattern part of my invention and they are starting to talk about BIG MONEY now. This has me thinking to take a closer lookat I'm getting into and I found this. I have not lost as much money but any amount is too much. I feel as if the time I spent creating my idea and the time wasted with this has me really upset! If this company is not really what they say they are please I would be more then happy to join the class action law suit! I don't have time or money to just give a DEAD HORSE!
  • I submitted an idea 3 years ago and at the time Stated I would revisit the idea in a few years. In the past few days I have been in talks with a rep from Davison very slick on the phone and offering certain discounts if I pay the $715 or so by a certain date.

I am based in Ireland so it's in our DNA to be cautious! Really happy I stumbled upon this, site comments have definitely made me rethink ....normally if something appears to good to be true it normally is!

Thanks an best of luck with your ideas, Steve Ireland
    • So glad to see I'm not the only one afraid to be taken!

I'm scheduled to pay the first $100 tomarro, but seeing all these

posts has me calling my bank and blocking payment! Sounds like the

$715 will eventually turn into thousands. Being a mother of 3, I

can't, in good conscience, do that to my kids.

      Thanks for the confirmation!!
  • According to Erik Champagne's profile on LinkedIn (Managing Senior Director of New Products at Davison) part of his job is: "- Motivate sales team to meet team sales goals of $3.5M/year in revenue" $3.5M is an awful lot of people spending money with them and from people are posting here getting next to nothing in return. Glad I found this site before I became one of them.
  • Sadly every negative comment is true. it amazes me they have not beeen shut down. Please

Do not send them a cent. Your idea will never be created, and you will lose thosuands.
  • Glad I found this page, they are supposed to call me back next fri, so I can start making them payments and they can move on with my idea that is an awesome idea, and could go Very far. But by the looks if it, this is not the company I should try to go through. They said absolutely nothing about having to pay more than the 715. Hahaha!! I love the Internet. I don't have money to waste, and I'm not giving them my tax return to get scammed. I am just not even going to answer the phone when they call. Glad I didn't send them any paperwork back. Sign my name or send them any money. Sad. I was sooo excited too. Sigh.
