PeoplePerHour is a website that connects small businesses with freelance workers from across the internet to help them complete small projects quickly and affordably.

According to PeoplePerHour.com, thousands of small businesses use them to hire remote, freelance workers to complete small projects, or just to work for a few hours a week. They claim this allows small businesses to stay flexible.

PeoplePerHour says this benefits small businesses because they can create virtual teams of people across the country – or even internationally – “without the red tape, cost, and bureaucracy of traditional employment.”

They have seven main categories of projects: IT/Programming, Marketing/Sales, Design, Admin/Secretarial, Writing/Translation, Accounting/Legal, or Other. Each category is broken into smaller, more specific categories so workers can something that works for them.

Both businesses and workers can register at PeoplePerHour.com for free. The website does take a small fee from workers, however, when they successfully book a job.

  • Yet again, my account deactivated and this time because I threatened legal action for breach of contract against a buyer who I had agreed to provide training for in Chester and who then told me, less than 48 hours before I was due to deliver the training, that he wanted me to deliver the training in LONDON! I had already arranged vehicle hire and accomodation for going to Chester and the agreed rate was not sufficient to cover travel and accomodation in London not to mention the costs I'd already incurred.

Now my account is deactivated I no longer have the ability to prove the breach to pursue my losses or to invoice and be paid for the work I've done and all of my Escrow money, supposed to be there to protect me from bad buyers, has been refunded.

I will be holding PPH entirely liable for my losses now as I have no other way to recoup the money I am owed!
  • it's a big scam.
  • I have been a freelancer with PPH for several years, and my experience with them is generally good.

I am listed with them as a translator for specilist. languages and often they invite me to send proposals for work in languageser than those in my list.

I have done several jobs with then ovee the years, was always paid on time,

and received good, or great, feedback from my clients.

Pph has what may be described as a nagging marketing staff, but when you separate thr chaff from the grain, and if (only if!) you are an honest broker, pph seems to be a good platform to get small jobs done.
  • Happy to accept money from anyone but every excuse under the sun to avoid giving any out - extra security checks, accuse you of fraud, unexplained delays.

Support is getting even worse, if that's possible.

Very interesting activity if you look at companies house website - any accountants out there will know the possible reasons for closing a premium share account.
  • Scam scam scam... They will take your money and run. I'm in the process of taking legal actions against these scam artists. We don't need these scam artists that run by Greeks living in the uk.
    • Sounds like another Fiverr.com...It's a shame though that almost anything online these days has some form of scam in it..who do we trust?
  • The whole essence of this site is a joke.. What chance have genuine freelancers who have no ratings got at getting work on this site.. even if you do get a bite you are outbid by folk in third world countries. Everytime I bid for work 50 indians bidding crazy low amounts also bid. I thought this was a UK site so surely it should be for UK citizens only allowed to bid on. Also, the proposal system is bollocks. If you dont get selected you loose your proposal credit and therefore have to buy more.. why would I buy more credits when every time I bid an offshore worker bidding $5 to build a website wins. I'm wont be using the site and telling other freelancer I know to avoid it until they change their business.
    • Craig, although I am not UK citizen, (Bulgarian), I faced the same issues at the beginning like yours. Even in Bulgaria, where the living standard is lower than the one in UK, $5 for a web site is absolutely not acceptable. However, the folks accepting those proposals and than crying out on review sites that they are "scammed", are also responsible. So what I am saying is, if you buy $5 website you get $5 service period. The only admin thing that may PPH do, but I doubt its efficiancy is to put a minimum amount to let's say GBP 50, that will make the people trying to buy $5 websites to go away. I try to get around that problem sending specific proposals telling the client, how I will solve his assignment. And some times that works, but if you go to such a portal willing to pay GBP 20 for report template with VBA code in it, nothing helps.

And last but not least, I get very mad if I read "UK freelancer only", as you know the location can be cheeted, and some folks do so, and I am paying the price to honestly say and announce my nationality, however thanks God, I got some very valuable clients and I may say friends via PPH so I am still happy with the service.

      regards,

      Nikolay

  • AVOID AVOID AVOID

i used them in the past, but recently they have been cancelling my posts after i had deposited funds therefore not allowing me to get the jobs done and will not refund the money that i deposited just for the work to be done.

then when i try and get another job done it does not pass moderation! and guess what, yes , they are still holding my money.

this is not a company that can be trusted, it is a company to avoid.

i will be taking legal and media action against this company.
  • I had three projects on PPH as a freelance developer. 2 projects of 3 (66.6%) was straight scam. What they call 'escrow' doesn't work as escrow. Even if you have strong proof of done job they will just split escrow 50/50 between a scammer and you. I did project that costs 350GBP and received only 60GBP of 120GBP that was guarantied if there is scam on other side. PPH team are proved to be incompetent and they help scammers. Don't use it. I can provide all proofs and references.
