Toluna.com Reviews – Legit or Scam?

Toluna.comWe’re all familiar with the concept of taking online surveys in order to make money.  Toluna.com is a market research company offering you the chance to do exactly that, with a couple of twists.

First, Toluna.com does not give you direct payouts for every survey you complete like other companies.  Instead, they work on a point system.  You are given 500 points simply for signing up and at least 1,000 points for every survey you complete.  Once you reach 60,000 points, you can redeem these points for cash payouts.

Secondly, they also reward you with being a part of their social network, where you can create polls and opinion forums.  The more people respond to your polls, the more points you receive.

Finally, in addition to survey completion, Toluna.com also enters you into a drawing each month for the chance to win up to $2,500 just for being a member.  If you choose to, you can exchange 500 of your earned points for an extra entry into the monthly drawing.

So is Toluna.com a Scam?

The rule for determining if a survey company is a scam is whether or not you are charged for participating in surveys.  Toluna.com doesn’t charge their members for anything.  Your membership and participation are completely free.

Also, Toluna doesn’t make any outright earnings promises.  They don’t claim you can quit your day job, they just say you can make extra money.

But there are a couple things to keep in mind for being successful making money for taking surveys online.  First, make sure to sign up for multiple companies.  Surveys will only be given to you if you fit a very specific demographic.  Each survey company may only get a couple of surveys each month for your particular demographic.  If you sign up for multiple free survey sites you will be far more likely to get the number of surveys needed to actually make a couple extra hundred dollars a month.

Second, you need to do the research to see exactly how that survey company handles payouts.  With Toluna.com, you need to earn points before you can get your payout.  With other companies, you need to complete a certain number of surveys before you can be paid out, and with still other companies you need to reach a specific dollar amount before you can be paid out.  This is information you should have before you begin spending you can make money taking surveys.

Customer Responses, Reviews, or Complaints

Average Rating for " Toluna " is 0 out of 5 based on reviews.
  • Less than 24 hours after filling a survey on finances on Toluna I received a call from a debt consolidation company on my private line. They said I had agreed to the call via a third party. I object to the supposed private and confidential information I provide during a survey being sold as such I cancelled my account with Toluna. I wasn't a member long enough to know if they rip you off but they certainly sell your information.
  • WAS a faithful member for over a year, did 100's of surveys, got paid for about 20% which is about average completion rate. Then all of a sudden got a terse, hateful letter saying I was cancelled due to some mysterious "violation". When asked, they again tersely responded the same crap and said they couldn't tell me WHAT it was I supposedly did. How's that for an above-board company! They will take your data (your time, your opinions) and use it, sell it, and seldom pay you and then for some reason they will cancel people at random apparently (and refuse to say why).

Also, payments when they DID come, were very slow and many times took a complaint to get them. Maybe that's why they got mad at me and cancelled me? because I griped that I hadn't been paid what the PROMISED me? Wow what a company! BEWARE. Also if you choose to use them be prepared to screen out of about 60-80% of all surveys, and then be prepared to answer LONG surveys only to have them fail at the end and receive nothing. (Personally I am pretty sure they didn't "fail" they just set them up that way to prevent points from getting to your account. It happens about 20% of the time.

Global Test Market is much more direct, accurate, and pays exactly what and when they say. There are many others out there that are also honest, aboveboard, but NOT Toluna. Scammers who take your data and sell it but don't give you much in return, and if you gripe they kick you to the curb.
  • has taken 3 months and still not received an incentive and they don't care - just don't bother with them!!!! so many better survey websites such as global test market or inboxpounds
  • they are leopards with suits, this is a scam and a fraud and they are thieves. Never give them your details even your address they steal to much.
  • Told I didn't qualify after I wasted my time doing the entire survey , did not receive any points. Very disappointed.
    • this has just happened to me and it has happened on previous occasions how do they get away with receiving all your survey information for free also the stated times for surveys are impossible to complete and I still waiting for vouchers after 10 weeks its a rip off
  • Toluna is a rip-off and a scam. Avoid at all costs. Surveys take a ridiculous amount of time to complete and are worth like thirty cents or less. Sometimes you finish a whole survey and then you are "screened" out, so basically they got all your answers and data and then gave you nothing for it. Surveys are also hard to get in to as they screen (or discriminate) on ethnicity and geographic location. Reward checks take over one month to arrive, if you can ever cash out, as it would take forever to reach the cash out limit. Then they shut down my account for "suspicious activity", but would never tell me why. I never cheated, answered dishonestly, or deceived them in any way. Two days before, I had finally scraped enough points together to cash out a check. I'm pretty sure they didn't want to pay me, so they cancelled my account. Avoid Toluna like the plague!!!
    • Mark - I've just had the same thing happen (account cancellation with £70 payments outstanding) but after a lot of Googling I've seen quite a few people say they managed to resolve the issue by contacting Toluna through the email on their website, so that's what I'm going to try...
    • Hi,

How did you resolve the issues?

I have just had my account closed by Toluna for the same thing! No warning, no reasons (They keep citing the 'Code of Conduct') and no proof!

I had over 170, 000 points plus a number more pending.

If you can help me with this it would be appreciated!

      Cheers,

      Mark
    • I would like to amend my review by saying that after talking with Toluna my issues were addressed and my account was fixed. Very impressed that they were willing to work with me in a respectful manner. Willing to give it another chance.
  • Too many surveys you get into and after too many questions you are told you don't qualify. On occasion I've even reached the end to be told I don't qualify.

    BUT

Worst of all the wait for rewards is interminable. The web-site says between 1 & 2 months should be expected. I have currently been waiting for three months. I questioned the delay after 2 months & was told they are working on it & to be patient. I've just complained again and received the same reply word for word - clearly a cut & paste job.

    Don't bother with Toluna.
  • I have been doing 3-5 surveys a day, while qualifying for at least 1 a day, for over a year. I went to redeem my rewards tonight & it said I had 0 points! This company is a scam & I am no longer spending my time doing their non paying surveys.
  • I've been waiting over a month for my Amazon vouchers , every other survey company I know sends e- vouchers within 2-3 days, I won't be doing any more Toluna surveys
  • I must agree with the others that have a poor opinion of Toluna. Surveys take forever, with very little reward. It's infuriating to be screened out at the END of a survey, something that Toluna seems to specialize in. To even earn enough points for a $20 check takes a LONG time. To add insult to injury, your points expire! Thought I was getting very close to my reward. Logged in one day to find THOUSANDS of points gone. Contacted Toluna, and responded with a "so sad, too bad" email. NEVER AGAIN!
