Ziinga.com

Ziinga.com is a penny auction website that is available to users in over 16 different countries, including Britain, Canada, and the US, and claims to give people the ability to purchase expensive items at serious discounts.

Like most penny auctions, each bid on Ziinga US raises the price of the auction by one penny and each bid resets the auction clock to a longer period of time. The auction clock will reset with shorter times as the auction lasts longer.

All Ziinga auctions start at $0.00 and have no reserve price bidders must meet. The last bidder left wins the right to purchase the item at the final auction price, plus costs of delivery.

Ziinga does have auctions set with “maximum” prices, which means that once the bidding has hit the maximum price, members continue to bid in order to be the last bidder, but these bids will not increase the final item price.

You can only win two auctions at Ziinga within a 14 day rolling period, in order to allow more members to win auctions. To start bidding at Ziinga, you must purchase bids which range from 69 cents to $1.19 depending on the size of the bid package you choose.

  • Big Scam!! I won a bid and gave them my credit card. Bad idea. Thankfully as soon as I got off the site I saw all the bad reviews and called my credit card company and they said Ziinga will keep charging my card. I got any unauthorized payments to not go through but they still managed to charge me a few times for no reason and I never did get what I won with the bid. 2 months later I got an email from them saying they need $180 from me for a monthly membership fee. It's a good thing I got it cancelled so they can't charge anything.
    • Hi , the same thing happened to me. I cancelled my card and get myself a new card. Do you think they'll charged me still? Did you pay for the cancellation fees?
  • Stay well clear from this site a total con I can't believe that they are allowed to operate in this way and con innocent people, it's disgusting and it needs to be stopped. I was lucky they only managed to take £2 from my account but that was £2 too much, I called my bank and told them someone head stealing money from my account and they immediately cancelled my card so no future payments could be made.
  • I randomly came across the Ziinga site while messing around on the internet. Had a quick, free bid on - surprise surprise - the 2GB ipod thing, which I won. Having been scammed by another site of £8 on my phone quite a while ago, I checked to see other peoples rating of the site.

What I found didn't come as a surprise, but how much they charge for their 'membership' did. £60 a month? Why do they feel the need to charge such an obnoxious amount? If their pricing structure was more transparent, they wouldn't have any signups at all. Which is exactly what they deserve.

Their strategy is obvious; rope people in with unbelievable offers, then sting those who miss the small print. Then, when said people eventually found out about the scam and cancelled, they make an extra 28 quid on top. If this happened to me, I'd instantly cancel my card; I'd rather these ***eholes chased me down for the cash than just give it to them. The whole thing is dodgy and underhand, and I have every sympathy for those that have fallen for it. I've not even done it and I'm pissed!

Good luck to all here who are fighting this. Hopefully one day these conmen will get what's coming to them.
    • Well they scammed me. I got my money from my bank by telling them this. I said i did not get the email off Ziinga offering me their membership as it was blocked by my email client as spam,I explained as I did not see the email the agreement was not binding.

Ziinga appealed against my claim and sent copies of the screen I saw when I won my bid showing I agreed to membership, I replied to my bank my computer had crashed and as this was the case I did not see Ziingas membership offer. My appeal was up held and Ziinga lost their case with my bank.
    • Hi Mary. I didn't actually give my bank details to them, but to answer your question, I think they CAN still charge your card even if you cancel it outright at the bank. I've read differing stories on this site alone, some saying it worked, and others not. I reckon it varies from bank to bank, and how much you force your point across.

If I were in your shoes, I'd explain to the bank what's happened, and hope they were at least a little sympathetic about the problem. Their advisers should try to sort it out, or at least offer you some options. My advice would be to talk to your bank immediately before shelling out for the cancellation fee, and see what they have to say. Don't let them fob you off; it's your money after all.

If you aren't happy with the response from your bank, you could give the Financial Ombudsman Service a call. I've never used it personally, but as far as I know, they're the people to talk to about this kind of thing.

The Financial Ombudsman Service - http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/default.htm

      Phone - 0800 023 4567 - free from a landline, but charged if using a mobile phone.

I honestly don't know how much joy you would get from them, but as I say, it may be worth a shot. Good luck.
    • Hi, I'm going through the same thing. I wonder after you cancel your card do they still charge you cuz I read somewhere they still manage to charge the card? and did you pay any cancellation fees?
  • If I could choose a 0 rating I would! Total scam artists. When I read the t&cs I mistakenly thought it said you get a 7 day trial before the 3 month contract started. WRONG!! So after trying to cancel within the 7 days I was told I am bound for 3 months. But I could opt to pay $53 cancellation fee today only. Oh & the $140 i 'won' can only be used to buy bids. Thank goodness I used a prepaid visa not my bank card. I thought it would be a bit of fun but more like a nightmare!!
  • Was wondering if anyone has been threatened by Ziinga, in regards to if you don't pay up they will send round the debt collectors? Is this true? Please help?
    • No - they are one of these scam companies with a false address, etc - they may send emails but that is about all that they can do. What are they going to do? pay a debt agency a fee of approx. £80 - £100 in order to collect the £35 cancellation fee you own them? I believe they are owned by a company in the virgin islands. They scam all over the world - so little chance of them chasing people down - it would cost too much.

And here is another scenario - let say you dispute the debt - lets take it to court!! Fat chance - they have to pay to take you to court and the judge would laugh at them and probably award a compensation settlement in your favour for being scammed!! They ARE NOT LEGAL - and consumer rights would be right behind you - in pointing out that they are withdrawing funds unknown to yourself, and without your permission, from your bank account.

No - these fraudsters are not going to come after anyone for the money 'they believe' you owe them. They are scammers and they take what they can get. If you cancel your bank card - and get a new one - they cannot touch your bank account again - they don't have the security number to withdraw anymore funds - but be quick - get to the bank as soon as you see the first withdrawal - before they take another payment - because believe me - they will take a payment every single month - until you get wise and stop your credit card/bank card.
    • I was thinking the same thing, as I have paid only £2 on the 6/1/13 and have contacted my bank to cancel any other transactions that they try to take. Have now got until the 14/01/13 to pay the cancellation fee (£35) and I'm wondering whether to or just leave it.

The only thing that might not make them pursue debt collectors is i think they are based in RIGA so if correct chances are they won't pursue it.

Tough choice to make though, I'm considering just paying the £35 and be done with it, hate feeling so connnnnnnned though.

      Good luck
  • rip off i was on to my credit card about money being taken out of my account and they put me through to them. they told me that to cancel the 4 pound item i did not get was 35 pounds and when i phoned back the person on line told me i would have to pay another 59 pounds and 35 pounds to cancel which is costing me altogether 153 pounds for nothing.
  • SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    TAKES UR MONEY!!!!!!

    :(
  • complete scam, states its free for 7 days. Even the virtual chat told me that. when i rang to cancel, he said I had to pay £59 as stated in the terms and conditions. I ended up paying £35 cancellation fee. I lost the £100 I had purchased as i couldnt get the bidding to work properly and just ended up cancelling it and leaving the £100 on the site. Also, I thought the £100 would be shipped to me, but it turns out its only to be used on the website. DONT DO IT

  • It is all Fraud gang. They lure you that you can get free membership and bid free for auction. They make you bid very low for first time and if you win they get your credit card information.

They pose they will ship you free shipping items but when you see no product is coming then make excuses you need to send ID and sign bank account card agreement.

They do not tell you while you are bidding first time that you will be charged 3 month compulsory membership fee. Then one day you notice they have charged your Card 3 month fees whether you send them written consent or not.

It is all total scam and the method they adopt to grab money is not transparent.Actually they are breaching their own agreement bcz they are not giving you product as they lured you at the start.

They put blame on consumer that they have violated of breaching contract but actual themselves defaulters.I do not understand why Government and banks have let then play and loot money this way.
